China Warns Women on AIDS, Foreigners
China’s official newspaper for young people warned Chinese women Wednesday of the dangers of having sex with foreigners.
In a lengthy article appearing after a stranded American with acquired immune deficiency syndrome was airlifted out of the country last week, the China Youth Daily called for greater education of young people in morality and “appropriate sexual behavior” to prevent the spread of the disease.
“In the past few years . . . some young women have had inappropriate sexual relations with foreigners,” the paper said. “They are in danger of being infected and infecting others (with AIDS).”
Foreigners applying to stay in China for more than a year must undergo tests for AIDS and other communicable diseases under a law that took effect in May.
