3M Electrical Unit Moving to Texas

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. said it will move its electrical products division headquarters to Austin, Tex., in August, 1988.
Company officials said the move will affect 350 employees at 3M’s headquarters in Maplewood. The employees will join 1,000 others working in 3M’s electro-telecommunications group in Austin.
The move will coincide with the opening of 3M’s new, 162-acre Austin Center, under construction just outside the Texas capital.
Also in Austin is the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp., an organization of firms conducting joint research in the computer and electronics fields. 3M joined the group in 1985.
