John Q. Adams, Kin of Presidents, Dies

John Quincy Adams, descendant of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, has died at age 64, family members announced Wednesday.

Adams, who died Monday at his home, was the great-great-grandson of the sixth President, John Quincy Adams, and the great-great-great-grandson of John Adams, the nation’s second President.

The son of the late Arthur Adams and Magery Lee Adams, Adams graduated from St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H., and was a member of the Harvard College Class of 1945.

He retired last year from the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., where he had worked for 39 years, most recently as senior vice president for bonds and corporate finance.

Adams, the half-brother of former Massachusetts Gov. Francis Sargent, is survived by his wife, Nancy Motley Adams; two sons, two daughters and three grandsons.
