Britons living in Southern California presented a check for $14,500 to the British consul general as a donation to a fund for relatives of victims of the March 6 sinking of the ferry Herald of Free Enterprise. Rescuers found 187 bodies in the wreckage, but authorities believe the death toll may have been closer to 200. The check from the British Community Advisory Board will go to the Channel Disaster Fund, which is expected to reach $3.2 million.
