Construction Started on Bell Tech Center
The city of Bell is marking its 60th anniversary with the start of construction on a $12-million mixed-use development. City officials hope this will signal a movement by the community to diversify its economy through redevelopment.
For some time, the city depended on card clubs for the bulk of its revenue, Mayor Jay B. Price said.
The project, Bell Tech Center, is being developed by Trammell Crow Co. on an 8.6-acre site on the former Cheli Army Air Force Base, once a staging area for war materials shipped to the Pacific Theater during World War II, on Bandini Boulevard between Atlantic Boulevard and Eastern Avenue.
Bell Tech Center, a 36,000-square-foot office/service center building and 120,000-square-foot warehouse/distribution facility designed by Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects, is the first project in which the Bell Redevelopment Agency has taken an active role by entering into a development agreement with a developer. Occupancy is scheduled by the end of this year.
