A wooden pedestrian bridge linking 3rd and 4th avenues near Balboa Park will be closed for at least several weeks because of termite infestation, a city official said Monday.
Steven Wallace, associate city civil engineer, said the bridge was closed last Wednesday when maintenance workers noticed the termite problem. The structure will remain closed pending an examination by a certified expert, Wallace said.
He said the bridge will be closed for at least a few weeks.
The picturesque wooden bridge, built in the early 20th Century, spans a deep canyon that divides Quince Street between 3rd and 4th avenues just south of Hillcrest. The structure is particularly popular among pedestrians going to and from Balboa Park.
