Violence on Southern California Freeways
I have lived in Los Angeles since 1940 and the trend has always been quantity and growth instead of quality and people.
The quality of life in the city has never been a priority of anyone but the citizens who live here and pay taxes. We are the last to be heard.
On July 26, I was stuck for two hours and 15 minutes on the part of Pacific Coast Highway between Channel Road and the freeway tunnel. It was wall-to-wall cars and a true nightmare! There were no police in sight. Cars were making illegal turns, it was a social zoo and nothing moved. If my frustration level was any indication, I understand the potential for violence completely.
When I reached the tunnel, I found the police.
They had blocked off the egress lanes and were causing the traffic jam! Words fail me!
When will something begin to be done to attack the problems which have destroyed the quality of life here? We’ve heard the rhetoric and seen the studies. The City Council and the mayor don’t do anything but posture.
We need leadership in beginning to deal with traffic, crime, unemployed youth, gangs and violence.
