AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: John Cougar Mellencamp’s new album is titled “The Lonesome Jubilee.” Due out later this month from PolyGram Records, its first single will be “Paper in Fire,” while other songs include “Down & Out in Paradise,” “Cherry Bomb,” “Hard Times” and “We Are the People.” . . . Roger Waters may not want anything to do with Pink Floyd anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s entirely forgotten his legacy with the band. Waters’ next single, “Sunset Strip” (due out Aug. 12), will offer a B-side featuring a new version of “Money,” with vocals by Squeeze’s Paul Carrack. As for Pink Floyd, the new album from Waters’ former cohorts is titled “Momentary Lapse of Reality,” and is due at the end of the month from CBS Records. . . . More details still to come, but Jeff Beck is working on an album project with ex-Sex Pistols Svengali Malcolm McClaren. Rumor has it the duo has been updating Viennese waltzes with Beck’s trademark guitar riffs. . . . The new Cars album, due out at the end of the month, is called “Door to Door.” . . . The Balancing Act’s new album, “3 Squares and a Roof,” is due out in late September from PMRC Records, with Peter Case at the production helm. . . . Is it true that Keith Richards will be in town shortly, working on his debut solo album? What’s more, don’t be surprised to see blues guitar-slinger Robert Cray turn up on some of the cuts as well. . . . And our Band Name of the Month goes to Gay Bikers on Acid, a British group whose new album will be distributed here by Virgin Records.
