The programming powers at ABC may have a fight on their hands about the May 18 cancellation of “Starman.” Dozens of fans of the science fiction show protested its absence Saturday at the meeting of the National TV Critics Assn. in Redondo Beach. During a speech by ABC Sports President Dennis Swanson, the leader of the “Starman” pack burst into a conference room at the meeting, rushed up to the podium and invited the critics to talk to the fans rallying outside. The only problem was that ABC Entertainment President Brandon Stoddard, who made the final decision to cancel the chronically low-rated “Starman,” didn’t attend Saturday’s meetings.
