The State : Sean Penn in Sierra Jail

Actor Sean Penn is serving part of his 60-day sentence for punching a movie extra at a small jail in Bridgeport near the Nevada border. Penn surrendered Friday night at the 24-bed dormitory-style Mono County Jail in the eastern Sierra, Sheriff’s Sgt. Terry Padilla said. “This is a typical small, rural county jail,” Padilla said. “We don’t have any rooms with a view.” Paying $40 a day, Penn, 26, shares his cell, shower and toilet facilities with several other inmates, Padilla said. “He wears the same jail clothing, eats the same food and has the same privileges as our other prisoners,” Padilla said. Prisoners are responsible for cleaning their cells, cooking the food and cleaning the jail and sheriff’s patrol cars, he said.
