Ford Motor Co. said it seeks a “peaceful settlement” in labor negotiations under way in Detroit. Although Ford’s chief bargainer provided no specifics, the company told the United Auto Workers that it is “receptive to providing reasonable job security” for the company’s 104,000 U.S. hourly workers, “but . . . it must be flexible and at a fair cost.” The company said it wanted “flexibility to respond to swings in product demand” and to “reallocate manpower to plants where jobs are available.”
