Local News in Brief : Agoura Man in Export Case Gets Probation
An Agoura man who pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to illegally export military technical manuals to Argentina and South Africa was sentenced Monday to three years’ probation, fined $5,000 and ordered to perform 900 hours of community service.
Edward James Bush, 51, a private consultant for Newport Aeronautical Sales, was arrested Feb. 6 at Los Angeles International Airport on his way to Argentina and South Africa with boxes of non-classified military manuals for aircraft generators, prosecutors said.
Bush cooperated with government authorities in the federal trial of George MacArthur Posey, Bush’s business partner. Posey, who faces sentencing on Sept. 21, was convicted on three counts of conspiring to violate the federal Arms Export Control Act and the 1986 Anti-Apartheid Act.
