Comprehensive Accounting Corp., the nation’s largest franchisor of accounting services, has agreed to pay up to $3.5 million to its local franchise operators to settle charges that it failed to comply with government rules, the Federal Trade Commission said. The commission had charged the Aurora, Ill.-based firm with violating federal franchise regulations by misrepresenting the earnings and profits of its franchisees. The company has sold more than 800 franchises across the nation during the past 20 years and has about 350 in operation. It is the largest U.S. franchisor of bookkeeping, accounting and tax services, the FTC said.
