A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 55% of the 1,205 adults interviewed by telephone Aug. 3-5 had not “read or heard anything” about the nomination of Robert H. Bork to the Supreme Court, the Post said in today’s editions.

Of those aware of the nomination, 45% said they approve and 40% disapprove, with 15% undecided.

In addition, 46% said the Senate should consider only Bork’s background and qualifications when deciding whether to confirm him, while 51% said the Senate also should consider Bork’s political views. Three percent said they had no opinion on the issue.

The margin of error for the overall results of the poll is plus or minus 3%, while the margin of error for the results for those who had read or heard about the nomination is plus or minus 4%, the Post said.
