Sri Lanka Seeks Rebuilding Aid

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka —
Sri Lanka today appealed for international help to rebuild its economy under a week-old peace pact designed to end four years of fighting between Tamils and Sinhalese.
Finance Minister Ronnie de Mel told a news conference that he conservatively estimated war damage at $515 million, with roads, railroads, buses, bridges, irrigation works, schools and hospitals suffering most.
