COP SHOTS

All that biz for “Beverly Hills Cop II” (ticket sales are now in excess of $143 million) has resulted in new points of interest for Southern Cal visitors.

According to Lt. Bill Hunt, spokesman for the BHPD, it’s common to see tourists snapping away at police cars parked outside City Hall (whose exterior was used in both movies). Some folks even stop officers on foot patrol, requesting them to pose for snapshots.

Said Hunt, “Occasionally someone will come in and ask if they can see the office. And we get a lot of people from other law enforcement agencies wanting to see it. They recognize City Hall and say, ‘Gee, it must look like it does in the movie on the inside too.’ ”

Wrong. BHPD offices depicted in the film are plush, with lots of chrome and glass. The real thing looks more like--well, a real cop shop.

Speaking of which, the Bev Hills Gun Club, as it appears in the pic, looks like an exclusive country club, what with all that wood paneling and posh decor (leather wingback chairs). The real Gun Club isn’t even in Bev Hills (it’s in West L.A.) and it’s not nearly as upscale. Outside, it resembles a warehouse; inside, it’s fluorescent-lit with guns behind the counter and racks of jackets and T-shirts with the club’s logo. (A Clint Eastwood poster adorns the wall.)

The Gun Club’s also seeing interest growing among out-of-towners, and co-owner Arthur Kassel says he’s got increased memberships to prove it. Three years ago, the club began offering $15 out-of-state memberships. Now: “We get people from Huntsville, Ala.; Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Bangor, Me., who want to join. They think it’s the greatest bargain.”
