Moses, Reynolds Win in London

U.S. track stars Edwin Moses and Butch Reynolds continued their preparations for the World Championships with victories Friday in the International Athletes Club IAAF Mobil Grand Prix meet at London.

Moses won the 400-meter hurdles, the event he has dominated for a decade, in 48.07 seconds. Kriss Akabusi of Britain was second in 49.34.

Reynolds, who has the three fastest 400-meter times this year, also won easily, taking the lead with 50 meters remaining and finishing in 44.42 seconds. Innocent Egbunike of Nigeria, the former Azusa Pacific runner who is the only man to have beaten Reynolds this season, was second in 44.80. Britain’s Derek Redmond was third in 44.89.

In other events, American Arthur Blake was the surprise winner of the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 13.31 seconds, upsetting Olympic champion Roger Kingdom. Brazilian Joaquim Cruz, the 1984 Olympic 800 champion who ran 48 hours earlier at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis, faded in the final half of the 800 meters and finished sixth behind winner Tom McKean, who led a British sweep of the first five places.
