VIDEORGY: Remember “Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun,” Julie Brown’s goofy melodrama about the debutante who starts blowing away half her high school class? Well, the irreverent pop satirist is back, this time with a new twist on the old Frankenstein theme. The video opens with a mad scientist inserting a celebrity brain into his lovely young captive (played by Brown). Unfortunately, his frazzled assistant breaks the jar with Brooke Shields’ brain in it, so they opt for Tina Turner’s gray matter instead--hence the video’s title: “Trapped in the Body of a White Girl.”

A gentle satire about young lasses who wish they were born with a bit more soul, the video’s highlight is its snazzy laboratory set, which has the cartoonish splendor of a secret annex to “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.” Designed by Jeremy Railton with art direction by Allee Willis, the lab is worthy of the hippest Melrose Avenue scientist, crammed with hot-pink bubbling beakers and dancing skeletons, with walls dotted with hip-hop graffiti. We can’t wait to see the video (hint, hint) on MTV, while Brown’s new album--which features “Trapped” as well as “I Like ‘Em Big and Stupid” and “Shut Up and Kiss Me”--is due out from Warner Bros. Records in mid-September.
