A distraught and wheelchair bound man held his daughter and grandson hostage at gunpoint in his Carson area home for more than an hour before releasing them and surrendering. Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Smith said Michael Calhoun, 47, was taken to Harbor General hospital for psychiatric evaluation after deputies persuaded him to release Sherry Mart, 26, and her 15-month-old son. He said Calhoun, a paraplegic who shares the home in the 900 block of West 232nd Street with his daughter and grandson, had been depressed recently after losing a job and breaking up with his girlfriend. Smith said Calhoun was armed with a shotgun and a handgun when he barricaded himself inside the house, which was later surrounded by a Sheriff’s Special Weapons Team. Calhoun surrendered about 90 minutes after permitting his daughter and grandson to leave.
