Danish Prime Minister Poul Schlueter called an unscheduled parliamentary election for Sept. 8. “The four coalition partners will seek a mandate to continue the government’s economic policy,” Schlueter, a Conservative, told the Folketing, Denmark’s Parliament. He said it is important to remove any uncertainty over who should have governmental responsibility over economic policy. A majority of representatives in the 179-member legislature approved Schlueter’s decision to hold the election next month rather than the previously scheduled date of Jan. 9, 1988.
