The French-trained Triptych, racing in the rain on a soft course, produced a late burst of speed and cruised to victory in the Matchmaker International, one of Europe’s richest races for thoroughbred horses.

Ridden by American Steve Cauthen, the 5-year-old mare surged through the middle of the field and won the $202,649 first prize by two lengths from Ascot Knight, with Sir Harry Lewis finishing third.
