Calay President Says Task Is Finished, Resigns

Share

Peter J. Shaw has resigned as president of Calay Systems Inc. of Irvine, saying he has completed the financial turnaround he was hired to plan and implement a year ago.

Calay, which makes computer-aided design systems for electronics manufacturers, was acquired in July by AGIV, a West German holding company. Shaw said the acquisition was the final step in his revitalization efforts.

Shaw will return to Shaw Group International, his high-technology consulting and development firm, while continuing to assist AGIV as a consultant. Shaw’s successor at Calay has not been announced.

Last year, Calay found itself in serious financial trouble caused by an overly aggressive expansion. Shaw, who joined the company in August of 1986, cut costs, introduced new products and sought more capital for research and development.

In an earlier turnaround effort, Shaw helped Genisco Computers Corp. in Costa Mesa return to profitability in 1986. He was previously the founder and president of Syte Information Technology and president of Megatek, now a subsidiary of United Telecommunications Inc.
