Viacom posted a loss of $4.7 million for the second quarter, compared to a loss of $18 million a year ago. The company said costs related to the acquisition of Viacom International, the predecessor company, by a subsidiary of National Amusements contributed to the loss. Operating income was up 20% to $65.9 million, and revenue was up 12% to $254.3 million, the New York communications company said. It attributed those gains to its cable and broadcasting units.
