Torn Ligament Ends Duncan’s Season

As suspected, Mariano Duncan’s season is over. Further examination Wednesday by Dr. Frank Jobe showed that Duncan has a torn ligament in his left knee, and the Dodger shortstop’s leg will be placed in a brace for six weeks.

Bill Buhler, the Dodger trainer, said Duncan will not require surgery. “Dr. Jobe said it should heal by being immobilized,” Buhler said.

Duncan, 24, suffered the injury in a game against the San Francisco Giants Sunday at Candlestick Park. He hurt himself sliding into first base trying to beat out a bunt attempt.

Duncan had lost his job to Dave Anderson and had been sent to the minors briefly earlier this month. He has a .215 batting average with 6 home runs and 18 RBIs.
