A report released by a special grand jury in Christiansburg, Va., accused Russell Pierre, a former Virginia Tech basketball player, of trying to extort money and an automobile from Coach Charlie Moir earlier this year.

The report by the Montgomery County panel, which is not an indictment or a formal charge, accused Pierre of requesting help from Moir in getting a luxury automobile and financial assistance for moving expenses to New York. Any indictments must be issued by the regular grand jury.

The report said that after Pierre was declared academically ineligible in late 1986, he told Moir that if his demands were not met, he would expose academic deficiencies in the basketball program.
