Microsoft said it shut down a software counterfeiting ring in Northern California. The Redmond, Wash., company, which filed a copyright infringement suit against KK Graphics Printing and Richard K. H. Lin, said business records and testimony indicated that at least 10,000 illegal copies of MS-DOS, the operating system for IBM-compatible personal computers, and related documentation had been sold. Evidence seized from another defendant, Beltron Berkeley, showed “an elaborate counterfeiting network” that sold large quantities of software to distributors in Southern California, Microsoft said.
