Saudis’ Vacations Cut Short Amid Tension With Iran
About 30 Saudis, including relatives of King Fahd, have returned home suddenly from vacation, apparently because of tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran, sources on the French Riviera said.
The sources, requesting anonymity, said Fahd’s wife and nephew and other wealthy Saudis flew home on Monday, reportedly at the king’s orders.
In recent weeks, security by French police had visibly increased outside Riviera mansions owned by Saudis.
French television reported that it is widely believed that the Saudis feared terrorist attacks after clashes on July 31 in Mecca between Iranian pilgrims and Saudi security forces left more than 400 people dead.
