The Bias Against Women

Share

Kudos to staff writer Maura Dolan for her excellent and extensive coverage of women’s role in the Catholic Church (Part I, Aug. 16). Because of it I have read closely the recently released pastoral letter on women to which I respond:

Why is it that the male hierarchy of the Catholic Church is so hung up on secrecy when it comes to the advancement of women? Tucked away in his Pastoral Letter on women’s role in the church, Archbishop Roger Mahony offers an ideal to women by quoting John Paul II “. . . women by looking to Mary find in her the secret of living their femininity with dignity. . . .”

The reality is that women are sick and tired of being kept in the position of being one of the best kept and greatest secrets of our Roman Catholic Church.
