Air-Conditioning Use Soared in Steamy July

WASHINGTON —
The nation’s air-conditioning bill jumped nearly $196 million above normal in steamy July, amounting to a monthly air-conditioning bill of $103.93 for the typical residential electric customer, the government said Friday.
On the West Coast, the average was only $46.70, $5.35 below normal, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
