Re the “Revolution”-Nike flap, there is a point that Dennis McDougal failed to mention in his Aug. 2 Popping Off and that letter writers (Aug. 9) also neglected to bring out: Why did the Beatles write “Revolution” in the first place? Was it for fun? Or was it, as Lorrie Matheson wrote, to make a “serious statement”?

I think what they all have failed to see is that the prime purpose behind this and their other songs, albums, concerts, etc., was “commercialization,” i.e., to make money.

I’m not saying that there is anything wrong in that, but let’s be honest with ourselves and admit that the Beatles are not above makin’ a buck. Consider their pending $15-million lawsuit.
