The third time proved to be the charm for Ricky Wood in Saturday’s U.S. Junior Olympic Diving Championships at Heritage Park Pool in Irvine.

Wood, who competes for the Northridge-based Los Angeles Diving Team, won the platform event to avenge second-place finishes to Brian Ramos in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events in the 14-15 age division earlier this week.

Wood, 14, of Simi Valley, was the silver medalist in the platform at the World Age-Group Championships in Oslo, Norway, two weeks ago, where he scored 288.25 points on 11 dives from the 10-meter height.

Ramos, who competes for the Mission Bay Makos, scored 280.05 points for the silver medal, and Greg Triefenbach of the North Carolina Aquatic Club won the bronze with a score of 275.85.

Ramos, the world champion in the one-meter springboard, defeated Wood in that event, 431.20-368.05 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Ramos defeated Wood, 461.30-429.15, in the three-meter event.
