John Hurt will be back as the on-screen narrator for four new installments of “The Storyteller,” an occasional series of European fairy tales for NBC, produced by Jim Henson. Hurt’s role will expand in one of the half-hour programs, which has to do with a time when the storyteller ran out of stories and his life depended on coming up with just one more.

ABC’s game show “Bargain Hunters” is on its last legs. The network plans to replace it on the daytime schedule with reruns of the comedy “Mr. Belvedere,” beginning Sept. 7. “Bargain Hunters” started July 6.

The Disney studio is recycling one of its old movies for its ABC series, “The Disney Sunday Movie.” Coming this season will be “The Return of the Shaggy Dog,” with Gary Kroeger as the young man who can be turned into a sheepdog by a magic ring. Todd Waring plays his brother and Michelle Little will be seen as his fiancee.

NBC’s “Rags to Riches” will open the fall season Sept. 18 with a two-hour episode shot on location in Las Vegas. The story has star Joseph Bologna going undercover for the CIA. . . . Another NBC series, “Crime Story,” also is filming in Las Vegas.

Writer Edward Anhalt, who won Academy Awards for “Panic in the Streets” and “Becket,” will be seen as an actor on CBS’ “Falcon Crest” this season. He’s been signed to play a sinister character who helps Eric Stavros (John Callahan) search for his missing wife.

Robert Klein’s talk/variety show has been renewed by cable TV’s USA Network. There will be 23 new installments of “Robert Klein Time” produced; they’ll begin airing in January. The shows will be taped both in New York and Los Angeles.
