Nearly 800 U.S. military officers from around the world gathered for an annual conference of senior U.S. military leaders, an Army spokesman said. Adm. William J. Crowe Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was leading the four days of private meetings at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., amid increased security. He was joined by the service chiefs of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force and the heads of the U.S. unified and specified commands, the spokesman said. Current and former civilian and military officials and some private citizens also attended.
