Rapist-murderer Sterling Rault Sr. died in the electric chair for the 1982 slaying of a secretary who was his alleged accomplice in an embezzlement scheme at the firm where they both worked. Rault, 36, of New Orleans, who had escaped seven previous death dates, was pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m. CDT by the West Feliciana Parish coroner at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. He was the 15th person put to death in Louisiana--the eighth this year--and the 87th nationwide since the Supreme Court lifted its ban on capital punishment in 1976.
