‘AIDS Threat: How Serious?’

Share

I am appalled by the lack of responsibility The Times has shown in making it crystal clear that some feel there is no threat of an AIDS epidemic.

The mere fact that the medical community throughout the world does not know the incubation period of the virus creates a need for heterosexuals, as well as homosexuals and drug users, to remain aware and careful for many years to come.

I’m not a medical expert, but certain nonmedical points should be considered: 1) statistical results can be manipulated in many different ways. They cannot be accepted as factual evidence. 2) By human nature, if people are led to believe there is no threat or need for knowledge about AIDS, they will not push themselves to educate and/or protect themselves or others.

“It’s better to be safe than sorry” is an old adage, but still a true one. Heterosexuals, as well as gays and IV drug users, must continue to understand the threat of AIDS for their own future.
