Federated Department Stores Inc., Cincinnati, promoted Jerry M. Socol to chairman and CEO of its 16-store Filene’s department store division, which has headquarters in Boston. He replaces Michael J. Babcock, who resigned. Jeremiah J. Sullivan, executive vice president-finance and operations at Federated’s San Francisco-based I. Magnin division, will succeed Socol as president of Filene’s.
