‘Panic in Gulf, Money in Bank’

Share

Michael Kinsley’s analysis of the Persian Gulf “escapade” (Op-Ed Page, Aug. 16) is indeed enlightening. Also it proves that our President can fool the people anytime he so desires.

He was able to fool the people that he would balance the budget. He was able to fool the people on the sale of arms to Iran in exchange for the release of hostages and now he is fooling the people as to the reason for our being in the Persian Gulf.

In spite of the flowery statements made by our congressional leaders at the end of the hearings, it seems that they are again being fooled into allowing our country to become embroiled in another situation that does not serve the best interests of our country and could lead us into the next world war.

Congress should heed the words of Kinsley “that the service is not worth what it costs our country to provide,” and it should use its power to stop the flow of funds for this operation.

Let us get out while we can without any further loss of property, life and money.
