Irish Leader Cancels Planned U.S. Visit

DUBLIN, Ireland —
Irish Prime Minister Charles Haughey has called off a three-day trip to the United States later this year because of a heavy workload, a government spokesman said Wednesday.
Haughey was to have visited New York and Boston in October to raise funds for his Fianna Fail party. Haughey is currently overseeing a drive to cut public spending in an effort to right Ireland’s economic crisis.
