Major U.S. Documents Get Added Protection

WASHINGTON —
The original copies of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence were displayed Wednesday behind a new layer of glass designed to protect them against attack with a hammer or handgun.
The laminated glass was installed overnight at the National Archives in response to an attack last October by a man who struck the documents’ display case twice with a hammer, Susan Cooper, a spokeswoman for the archives, said.
