Fountain Valley : $140,850 in U.S. Grants Go to Coastline College
In two separate grants, Coastline Community College recently was awarded a total of $140,850 from the U.S. Department of Education for programs run by the college.
One grant was for $72,000 for the college’s World Trade Center Institute. College officials said the money will be used “to expand the institute’s credit and non-credit programs, resource center and computer network.”
The World Trade Center Institute is a cooperative venture between Coastline and the 600-member World Trade Center Assn. of Orange County. The institute, through its training and referral service, helps businesses involved in foreign trade.
The second federal grant received was for $68,850 for the college’s bilingual program. Drew Simpson, spokesman for the college, said this grant will be used “to design and implement a curriculum leading to an associate in arts degree for bilingual teacher’s aides.”
Simpson said a survey conducted by the college had found a great need for teacher’s aides with bilingual skills in Vietnamese and Spanish.
The new bilingual teacher’s aide program will begin in the fall of 1988, he said.
