Baptism by Fire

The road to becoming a Los Angeles city firefighter passes through a “boot camp” at Westlake Training Center. Recruits and their instructors use nearby MacArthur Park for a range of toughening exercises, their Spartan routine a contrast with otherwise placid pursuits. For the rest of their 10-hour day, they work on books and practical skills.
