Convicted rapist Gary Dotson scored a second legal victory but remained in jail in Chicago after his arrest earlier this month on wife-beating charges and could still be returned to prison. Dotson was the subject of national attention in 1985 when Cathleen Crowell Webb, the woman he was convicted of raping six years earlier, stepped forward to recant her testimony. Prosecutors went before Circuit Judge Marvin Gavin and agreed to drop allegations that the wife-beating case represented a violation of the terms of his court-ordered supervision for an earlier drunken-driving conviction.
