Share

Maoist guerrillas, tossing dynamite and firing submachine guns, killed the head of a Peruvian-run food distribution company and wounded his wife and three children in an early morning attack on their home, police said. A bodyguard also was killed. Rodrigo Franco Montes, 30, president of Peru’s staple food importer ENCI, was ambushed by at least eight rebels, police said. The rebels were thought to belong to Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), which has targeted the ruling American Popular Revolutionary Alliance, of which Franco was a member.
