Carol Burnett will star in a TV movie for CBS with her daughter, Carrie Hamilton. It’s called “Hostage” and deals with the kidnaping of a widow (Burnett) by a 19-year-old woman (Hamilton) who has escaped from prison.

Alfre Woodard, who has been nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in last season’s TV movie “Unnatural Causes,” is starring in another film for NBC. In “The Fierce Dreams of Jackie Watson,” she’ll portray an advertising executive who puts her life in jeopardy to help a 7-year-old boy involved in the drug world.

Walter Cronkite and Brent Musburger will host the two programs that CBS has planned for Sept. 17 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. In the morning, Musburger will anchor coverage of a parade in Philadelphia. That night, Cronkite will host “The Constitutional Gala,” a star-studded tribute to be held at Philadelphia’s Constitution Hall.

ABC will beat CBS to the punch, however, in celebrating the Constitution’s birthday. Peter Jennings and Ted Koppel will anchor a three-hour special on Sept. 16, “The Blessings of Liberty.” It will trace the evolution of the Constitution with dramatic scenes, then will report on current challenges that the Constitution faces.

The first of four new “Perry Mason” movies for the fall TV season is being filmed in Denver, with Raymond Burr, Barbara Hale and William Katt returning as, respectively, Mason, Della Street and Paul Drake Jr. The guest cast in “The Case of the Murdered Madam” includes Bill Macy, James Noble, Ann Jillian, Tony Geary, Vincent Baggetta, Daphne Ashbrook and John Rhys-Davies. NBC already has given it an airdate: Oct. 4.
