Harry Ellis Dickson, occasional Boston Pops conductor and father-in-law of a Democratic presidential candidate, Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, retired Sunday as a first violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Dukakis and his wife, Kitty Dickson Dukakis, were in the Tanglewood audience at Lenox, Mass., for Dickson’s last performance, with Seiji Ozawa leading the BSO in Verdi’s Requiem. Dickson, 78, who was closely associated with the late Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler, said he wants to use his time to be a guest conductor in the United States and Canada.
