Sony Corp. has surprised a generally reluctant stereo industry by promising to introduce the digital audio tape recorder (DAT) to the European market next month, with the techno-toy set to cost Euro-yuppies 3,500 West German marks (about $1,950). Industry analysts expect the move by Sony--considered an industry leader--to trigger catch-up release schedules from the other major electronics firms, although the Dutch giant Philips has already announced that it would wait until 1988.
