Joseph E. Smith has been named to the newly created position of vice president-marketing operations for CalComp, an Anaheim-based division of Lockheed.

He will have responsibility for all marketing programs, support and promotion for the company’s computer graphics peripheral products.

Smith joined CalComp in 1985 as Southeast district manager and became director of marketing operations in June 1986. Previously, he served nine years at IBM Corp. in varied sales and marketing positions. CalComp also said that Howard E. Brewer, executive vice president of operations, retired after almost 28 years with the company to pursue personal, educational and professional interests.

Brewer, 56, joined CalComp in 1959 as a member of the technical staff. He was named executive vice president in 1984.
