Nabih Berri, leader of Lebanon’s moderate Shia Muslim militia Amal, launched his strongest attack yet on the conduct of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement. In a speech in the port city of Tyre, Berri said of Hezbollah (Party of God): “Stop this trading with religion. . . . They prohibit eating in restaurants while they legalize attacking U.N. peacekeeping forces and the kidnap of innocent people.” The fundamentalist Hezbollah is generally believed behind the kidnaping of foreigners in Lebanon.
