More than 97,000 public employees went on strike throughout Panama demanding higher pay and the reinstatement of workers fired for taking part in anti-government protests. An official of the Federation of Public Employees said the workers walked off the job at eight government ministries and two state-run banks in the capital and left administrative posts at the duty-free zone in nearby Colon.
