Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

After 11 weeks, Whitney Houston has been bounced from the top spot of the Billboard magazine pop chart by the “La Bamba” sound track. But her “Whitney” LP could easily return to the top spot. The main competition isn’t Los Lobos, however, but Michael Jackson. His “Bad” album will debut on the pop chart in the next week or two--possibly at No. 1 and almost certainly in the Top 10. “Crushin’,” by the rollickin’, rappin’ Fat Boys, jumped from No. 12 to No. 8. The “Lost Boys” sound track is red hot, leaping 18 notches to No. 21. Los Lobos’ “La Bamba,” still the No. 1 single, continues to hold off Michael Jackson’s “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” (No. 2). Bananarama’s single, “I Heard a Rumor,” from the Fat Boys’ movie “Disorderlies,” shot up to No. 10. Other hot singles: Lisa Lisa’s “Lost in Emotion” (No. 16), Europe’s “Carrie” (No. 17) and Heart’s “Who Will You Run To” (No. 22).

* The brand-new Cars’ album debuted on the pop chart at No. 78 and should take a big jump next week--probably into the Top 40.
